Midgard-Community

Download System

We like to welcome our own download system into the public now! We recently just opened up our download system: http://www.midgard-community.com/the-download-push/

The future of our download system is to be the #1 housing area for all Ragnarok catered downloads ranging from: tools, sprites, gears, sheets, maps, etc.! It seems that TSR (The Sprite Repository) is now offline and no longer available for users, Midgard Community will take its place! Ever since we opened up our download system, we are being populated with all sorts of new files!

Check it out: http://www.board.midgard-community.com/files/

Month of May Digest for MC!

The month of May has been a busy one for MC! With the rebranding of our main site and forum and partial on our pre-renewal database, we've hit great peeks! We have over 32 servers now currently listed with 8 being newly listed in the month of May (big step from being 1/2 a month). MC has been getting a lot of hits and new visitors everyday in May ranging from about 30-100 visits a day and sometimes peeking to 150-350. We have gotten 31 new accounts registered with MC in the Month of May!

Our downloads system (ever since it has been publicly accessible) we've hit 35 files uploaded within about 2-3 days.

I'd like to thank everyone for helping Midgard Community grow! Can't wait to see what June will bring MC!

Site Optimization and Security

I've recently finished optimizing Midgard Community for faster loading speeds and security and now Midgard Community:

  • Loads 2x faster
  • Uses 60% less bandwidth
  • Has 65% fewer requests
  • And is way more secure

Good news everyone! (insert Farnsworth voice)

Midgard Community is even more faster! We've drastically cut down page speed loads by 5-7 seconds. Each page now should be loading, approximately, 500ms to 2 seconds.

Month of June Digest for MC!

June has been booming for MC! We created a Ragnarok Tools list on our site (http://www.midgard-community.com/ragnarok-tools/) as well as introduced MC's Ragnarok Simulator (http://midgard-community.com/simulator/)! We received nothing but positive feedback for our Simulator and we are so thankful to everyone! We are also working on MC's Feature Plan (http://www.board.midgard-community.com/feature-plan/) which gives the community some future insight into what is being planned for MC!

June has been more busy than May! And we would like to thank the community for that!

Here are a few stats:

A new Midgard Community is in the works... based off of the community's feedback! Here are some sneak peaks of what the site will be looking like with some optimization:

Here are a few more pictures! As you may notice, elements of the design correspond with your browser's width (this means mobile devices as well). I was debating what I should do with the "latest reviews" sidebar... meaning, how many reviews should be shown? If any at all.

I came to a conclusion that devices with a max of 480px width will see the latest review sidebar with only 2 latest reviews shown. The other 4 reviews will be hidden. I've done it like so because having 6 reviews showing in a mobile device is tiresome to scroll through... as it takes majority of the page.

What does everyone think so far? Along with some mobile responsiveness, some aspect of pages are getting a spruce up!

I would like to present everyone with a New and Improved Mobile Responsive site.

Important aspects of this design and its purpose, but mainly because this new and improved design is based on the fundamental principles of: Simplicity, Elegant, Purposeful, and Minimalist.

New and Improved – Mobile Responsive

I would like to present everyone with a New and Improved – Mobile Responsive site. It has taken me quite some time to piece together this new design and its improvements. The site has been redesigned from the front to the backend, top to bottom. I would like to key the important aspects of this design and its purpose, but mainly because this new and improved design is based on the fundamental principles of: SimplicityElegantPurposeful, and Minimalist.

It’s important to note that although the site has been polished, features have stayed intact but have been tweaked a bit to further reflect the design aspect. Midgard is re-introducing its Event Calendar feature. Server owners now have the chance to create / delete events on selected dates and server players (once check off the box ‘Receive Events from this Server?’ after reviewing a server) will also get a calendar on their account page listing upcoming events for the server(s) they reviewed.

Why go with this Design?

The minimalism aspect of the site was a tough one as there was a struggle with a question – How do I achieve this new minimalism? Well, design better. No seriously, the days of poorly executed web sites and apps are over (unless you don’t care about success). No more can you simply just throw together an idea and wait for the Brink’s truck to roll up in your driveway. You need to design a more purposeful, more effective, more useful and more timely web site if you want it to succeed.

Making Midgard Community Useful

A lot of thought has been put into the design as to how users will actually use the site. When designing, instead of putting up hurdles and stumbling blocks for the user,  the design comes with an easy, clear path. Users are able to quickly interact with the site and get where they need to go in one glance. Users who stumble a bit, the site is ready to catch them and plop them right back on the path. This design provides polite and direct feedback whenever the user interacts with a button, a form or even a slide show.

Kafras don’t waste time bringing Information

With Mobile Responsive being a key aspect of this design, mobile devices are minimalist creatures by nature and users will be able to consume more with less. This design removes all the extra stuff that is not necessary to the overall goals of the site so that users don’t get lost in the world of midgard. Minimalism is not just being simple or plain, minimalism is a movement of presenting elements in their fundamental purpose, mobile is a movement of consuming content in its fundamental form.

Midgard is built on Bootstrap

Bootstrap is the number one source you go to for making mobile responsive designs. Using Boostrap, we now utilize the two most popular CSS preprocessors, Less and Sass.

One Framework, every Device

Bootstrap easily and efficiently scales your websites and applications with a single code base, from phones to tablets to desktops with CSS media queries.

Full of Features

With Bootstrap, you get extensive and beautiful documentation for common HTML elements, dozens of custom HTML and CSS components, and awesome jQuery plugins.

Building onto Bootstrap, Midgard successfully utilizes HTML5 and CSS3. HTML5 and CSS3 are the newest web languages designed to help create elegant and efficient websites easily. HTML5 elements are related to page structure, while CSS3 is concerned with presentation.

HTML 5

HTML 5 is the next major version of HTML. It introduces a bunch of new elements that will make our pages more semantic. This will make it a lot easier for search engines and screenreaders to navigate our pages, and improve the web experience for everyone. In addition, HTML 5 will also include fancy APIs for drawing graphics on screen, storing data offline, dragging and dropping, and a lot more.

CSS3

CSS3 features are actually a component of the new HTML5 umbrella, and not a separate entity. The improvements introduced by CSS3 make changes easier and more convenient. It splits development up into modules while simplifying the integration and maintenance of a website.

It also incorporates some exciting new features to further improve the visual appeal and empower the functionality of a website. It offers new classes, selectors and properties, making it easy to set up an aesthetically pleasing layout very quickly. The idea is to continue reducing clutter while encouraging visitors to spend time enjoying the website.

Ever since we introduced Mobile Responsiveness to Midgard Community's homepage, many users have taken advantage of going mobile and taking MC with them. Here are two pictures of statistics:

In this picture, we can see that many people were sticking to Desktop modes to view Midgard Community prior to introducing Mobile Responsiveness.

In this picture we can see many users are now shifting and using mobile devices and taking advantage of MC's new mobile responsive.

Awesome. So, when's the Andriod/iPhone app coming? Would love to just open up a dedicated app. For now the website shall suffice.

Still really in debate mode. Like, as to what things should even be in the app... how the app should work, etc. =/
