Basilisk

Hey, new, couple of questions.

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm Bas. 25, and New to the Herc boards. [for those who were curious, or care.]

I've recently been presented the opportunity to help create and develop a server with a good friend of mine. Neither of us have much experience with scripting. He, however, has some previous server administration experience.

This is something I've been interested and wanting to do for quite some time, so naturally I jumped at the chance.

After doing some research and comparing we decided on using the hercules emulator, thus my presence here. So far seems like a good choice.

I was mostly just curious if anyone has any pointers on learning to write script and such for Ragnarok online, or even just some general direction for someone diving in, headfirst, way over their head into the world of RO "behind-the-scenes" stuffs.

I believe you should have a glance on this topic. Also, having doc/script_commands.txt open at all times (and actually reading it) would be a good start as it'l give you a hint on what and how you can do.

@@Garr, Ahh, thank you so much. doc/script_commands.txt is exactly the sort of reference/resource I was hoping someone could point me towards!

@@Basilisk as with programming in general i recommend you to read and modify scripts from others and write small ones of your own. You can learn a lot of good patterns from reading the scripts that come with Hercules.

A additional good resource for script things is http://herc.ws/wiki/Scripting it explains many aspects pretty detailed.
